Many of us know what the “damsel in distress” archetype is all about. It’s one of the oldest archetypes found in stories. The damsel may be beautiful and vulnerable to her detriment. The damsel usually looks for a mate who will fight her battles and will protect her. In the SHADOW aspect, the damsel must learn how to go through a process of empowerment and learn how to take care of herself. The teaching of the damsel is how to transform into the QUEEN archetype by learning to fight her own battles and step more into who she is without a co-dependancy relationship. The damsel must learn how to provide and protect herself.

Conversation with Client:

Me: I connect your illness to the vibration of many years in learning the Light aspect of the damsel archetype. It shows up on a conscious level.

Client: Well, now that I think about it, I only dated men who had authority like police officers when I was in my twenties.

Me: I see you did this as a way of feeling like you were protected.

Client: I did. Now that you mention it, when my illness first reared its head, I felt helpless and wanted my husband to help me. I developed a lot of resentment towards him and myself for being financially set back. On some level, I felt he was responsible and he should dig us out.

Me: Giving her a minute to let things soak in….

Client: You know now that I think about it, I’ve been waiting for something better to come my way.

Me: What do you mean?

Client: A phone call to land me a new position or relationship that serves me better.

Me: Oh! You are waiting to be rescued!

Client: Yes! I guess I do play the damsel in distress very well! I want something better to come along but I don’t know how to change this.

Me: You know you are in charge of your own happiness. You can make choices that empower you and your life. You alone can do this. That’s the positive aspect of the beautiful damsel. Does this sound like something you would want to pursue?
